The MC School of Business proudly recognized Ms. Laura D. Jackson as our 2019 Alumna of the Year. Laura visited our campus during homecoming week and on October 24, she was the headliner speaker for the School of Business Executive Speaker Series. Her speaking engagement in front of our business student body was followed by a luncheon where special guests, business faculty, and students recognized her great accomplishments and the school presented her with the “Alumna of the Year” recognition.

Dean Marcelo Eduardo said, “We are grateful to Laura for allowing us to recognize her as our Alumna of the Year. Her career in public service and public finance is exceptional, and we are very proud to call Laura one of our graduates.”

With almost 30 years of experience in state government, Laura Jackson’s career includes involvement in policy and administration, and a thorough understanding of the fiduciary responsibilities to the taxpayers of Mississippi. Laura’s background is the perfect foundation for her current role as the Executive Director for the Department of Finance and Administration, where she serves as the State Fiscal Officer for Mississippi.

The Department of Finance and Administration is the executive agency responsible for fiscal management and a wide range of other vital functions necessary to the operation of state government. She manages a staff of over 500 employees and is responsible for, among other things, the oversight of Mississippi’s $20 Billion annual budget. As State Fiscal Officer, she works closely with the State Treasurer and is routinely called upon to advise the Governor and the Legislature on financial matters affecting the State ranging from budget development and management to bond issuance.

Laura is married to Kevin Jackson (Class of ’88) and they have three grown children.  They are expecting their first grandchild in November 2019.
