As Mississippi Christian University celebrates 200 years of history, The Center for Faith, Service and Ethics in the School of Business is commemorating this milestone with the release of the Bicentennial Devotional Journal, His Mercies Are New Every Morning. The commemorative journal brings together more than 150 devotionals written by members of the MC alumni, faculty, staff, and students. Together, the entries offer reflections on faith, life, and experiences that have shaped the university over its 200-year history. The devotional reflects on the university’s journey and the faithfulness of God throughout its history. From its early years to the challenges and changes along the way, the journal provides an opportunity to remember the people, experiences, and Christian foundation that have shaped Mississippi Christian University. The full-color, hardbound, 208-page journal is designed as a keepsake, featuring gilded page edges and a format that invites readers to return to its pages for reflection.
A Vision for the Bicentennial Devotional Journal
The Bicentennial Devotional Journal was spearheaded by Dr. Billy Morehead, Director of the Center for Faith, Service, and Ethics in the School of Business. Through the Center, Dr. Morehead led the development of the journal, bringing together more than 150 devotional entries for this special bicentennial project. Contributors represent seven decades of Mississippi Christian University history, with graduation dates spanning 70 years and offering perspectives from across generations of the university community. More than simply a collection of devotionals, the journal offers an opportunity for readers to reflect on their own experiences.
A Reflection of 200 Years
The title, His Mercies Are New Every Morning, reflects the theme of God’s faithfulness that runs throughout the publication. In the foreword, Dr. Jerry Rankin, IMB President Emeritus, 2021 Alumnus of the Year, and member of the Class of 1964, reflects on his own experience at Mississippi College and the lasting impact of his Christian education. Rankin writes about the academic challenges that prepared him for life, the Christian values that were strengthened during his time as a student, and the role the university played in shaping his call to Christian service. He also reflects on what it means for an institution to be a Christian university and the importance of nurturing students in their faith while teaching every academic discipline within the context of a Biblical worldview.
